COVID-19 Precautions

Dear St. Davidians,
Bishop Cathleen convened the clergy of the diocese in an online meeting to discuss our churches’ response to the spread of the Covid-19 virus.  She asked each parish to gather its leaders, lay and clergy, to discern what is best in our particular situations.  I met with our vestry, deacons and education leaders, and we decided that the best way for us to do our part in slowing the spread of the virus.  There is lots of information in this article, please read it carefully.
  1. Worship services.  We will be offering worship by Zoom on Saturdays at 5pm and in person/on Zoom at 9:30am on Sundays.  If you wish to participate in the online worship, links will be sent you can use.
  2. Meetings and other gatherings: We have a Zoom account set up for St David’s.  Group leaders- if you would like to continue to meet using this online platform, contact me and I will help you with it.  There is no cost to participants.
  3. Pastoral Care: Clergy will be making personal visits only in cases of emergency.  We still want to stay in touch with you and pray with you and we will do that through phone, email and text.  We will be checking in with folks but if you want to talk with any of us please don’t hesitate to reach out.  Mother Vicki: 919-452-0543, rector [at] stdavidschurch [dot] com ; Deacon Annie: 785-230-5313, annieh2 [at] cox [dot] net; Deacon Mary: 785-845-1186, marybecker [at] stdavidschurch [dot] com.
  4. At this time, we plan to continue limited office hours.  Although we are still working out details, we plan on offering limited office hours beginning 1 June.
  5. If at all possible, please maintain your regular financial support of St David’s.  Our expenses will not go away during this time.  If you have a Paypal account, you can use the Paypal button on our website.  You can also set up a regular payment through your bank, or you can put a check in the mail (3916 SW 17th St, Topeka, 66604).
  6. Most importantly, check on each other.  Right now we need to maintain our faith community of support and care more than ever.  If you know of someone who will not receive this email, please reach out to them and keep them informed.  We all have a part to play in maintaining our community in this challenging time.
  7. We will continually evaluate all this. I am sure you will be receiving lots more communication from us in the coming days.

The spread of Covid-19 is challenging for us as a world and as a faith community.  Having to cancel so much is certainly a loss, but it is also a gesture of grace and love.  As we work to slow the spread of the virus we are caring for each other, protecting each other, and loving each other.  This is an opportunity for us to live into Christ’s command to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Blessings to you.  Stay healthy, stay safe, wash your hands, and pray.
